It all began in 1972 in a back room of the parish center in Quarto Inferiore on the outskirts of Bologna, where Dr. Romano Volta founded Datalogic. Soon the activity was focused on the design and production of photoelectric sensors for the textile, ceramic and packaging industries.
The company quickly became the point of reference for local entrepreneurship, fulfilling the demand for an electronically controlled industrial automation. Italy was embracing a technological revolution and Dr. Romano Volta was at the very heart of it.
«I was an assistant professor in Bologna university, when some entrepreneurs engaged the head of my department to solve their specific need for electronic control of their industrial processes. The head of my department directed them to me.» Based on this need, Dr. Romano Volta anticipated the entrepreneurial opportunity and started to work on his vision.
