The US Landing

The landing in the United States was paramount not only for local business opportunities but, more importantly, for the expansion of the commercial offer. As a matter of fact, during the 70s, the US initiated the first applications of barcode reading.
The great development of automation and numerical control machines, i.e., operated by a computer, had an Achilles heel: data entry was still executed manually, leading to inefficiencies and inaccuracies. The barcode technology was tailor-made to solve this issue, allowing data to be collected and entered extremely fast and with absolute accuracy. The first application took place at a supermarket checkout and, from there, the use of barcode reading gradually extended to all sectors, thus allowing the shift from still partially manual processes to fully automated ones.
Dr. Romano Volta immediately grasped the great potential of the new technology and realized that Datalogic had all the skills needed to develop a barcode reader.
