DATALOGIC: The Art of Code

Barcode history

June 26th, 1974 marked the first time a UPC code on a package of Wrigley chewing gum was swiped over the window of a Datalogic Model A barcode scanner at a Marsh supermarket in Troy, Ohio, USA.

That day Datalogic made history by producing the first commercial barcode scan, originating the now famous 'beep' of a good read.

The fast-moving adoption of barcode technology improved productivity and revolutionized the Retail industry along the entire supply chain – from the factory floor to the Retail outlet, while also creating huge waves in other industries such as Manufacturing, Transportation & Logistics, and Healthcare.

New barcode technologies continue to enable users to meet the increasing challenges of traceability requirements.
